Flight operations have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a major ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, considerable delays are anticipated to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers should still plan to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport as residual delays are cleared.
